Now I know there are prideful people out there who would never publish a blog on this topic. I'm sure there are parents who would never admit to going through this fun adventure. I'm positive there will be many people who will be scratching their head as they read this thinking, "Why am I scratching my head?"
Yesterday, I took Braden to the doctor for a deep cough he's had for a few days. The doctor - whom I'd waiting 1 hr and 35 minutes to see - told me that Braden has a severe sinus infection and the drainage is causing the cough. Feeling relieved that it was nothing worse, I asked one more question...
"My son has been scratching his head a lot. I've looked for little critters, but haven't found anything. Is it just dry skin or something?"
The doctor saunters over to Braden, looks at the back of his head, and announces, "Maam, your son has" - I can't believe I am typing this - "HEAD LICE!"
"WWWWHHHHHHHAAAAAAATTTTTT?? You've got to be kidding me."
"Nope. Not kidding. Come have a look."
I looked into his hair and saw two teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy objects against his scalp.
As the doctor points to them, he informs me, "These are lice, Maam. Don't panic. We see this a lot."
I'm thinking - Well, you shouldn't be seeing this on MY child!
He looked at me. Then he told me something I will never forget. "No parenting experience is complete without one battle with head lice."
Ugh!
I've shaved heads, stripped beds, washed everything we own, trapped pillows and stuffed animals in plastic bags, and even treated myself with lice medication - just in case. Yes, we treated EVERYONE in the family! Whew!
Our home is NOW lice free! I hope and pray we NEVER have this parenting experience again!
